Reading the results

The checker reads the width, height and format from the file itself, so the numbers are exact. The guidance it compares them with is common, widely published advice rather than an official guarantee: platforms change their limits and layouts, and each one decides on its own how to show a link.

  • 1.91:1 is the classic wide link card. An image of another shape is centre-cropped to it, cutting the top and bottom of taller images.
  • 2:1 is X’s large card, a little wider still.
  • 1:1 is the square thumbnail used by X summary cards and by many apps when an image is small.
  • Safe zone is the area that survives all three crops. Keep logos and headline text inside it.

Too small? The OG image generator makes a 1200 × 630 card from your text and photo.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best size for an Open Graph image?

1200 × 630 pixels is the size most often recommended. It suits Facebook, LinkedIn and X’s large card, and stays sharp on high-density screens.

Is there a file size limit?

Limits differ: X has published 5 MB and Facebook 8 MB, for example. Smaller files are fetched faster and more reliably, so a few hundred kilobytes is a sensible target.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is read and displayed by your browser only.
